Jesus said to them, “Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.” Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him. (Mark 1:17,18)
It can help to find the words to tell the truth of where you are now. If you can find the courage to name ‘here’ – especially in the place where you do not wish to be – it can help you be there. Padraig O Tuama
Dropping our nets
A favourite phrase of my son is ‘not right now’. I see that in myself - resistance to change, tending towards procrastination.
These brothers ‘right then’ dropped their nets. What was in Jesus' invitation that was so promising? Were they just in the right place for change, or was the promise just what they needed? A change from fish to people?
Quiet your soul. What changes might be beckoning, inviting you? Which ones scare? Which ones excite? Which ones do you need/want to respond to ‘right now’? Where will you find the courage, impetus or motivation?
Hello to change. Hello to right now.
