So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. Similarly we might also think of Lazarus or Jesus, or any occasion are our hearts, previously lidded, are opened or expanded as a result of God's activity.

The sound of shifting stones

He wakes in darkness. All around are sounds of shifting stones, doors opening. As if someone had lifted away a great weight, light falls on him. Wendell Berry, Sabbaths 2001, I I wonder if you have noticed any gathering sounds, of a door being scraped open or of a gracious light falling upon a grateful spirit, a gentle cleaving of the heart, drawing you out?
