Restored to a fully social being

Let us make mankind in our likeness. Genesis 1:26

Trinity, 1915, Kuzma Petrov Vodkin

Full capacity

"We are committed to the struggle of justice, liberty and peace, not because of some secondary interest in social theory, but because of the very foundation of the Catholic faith. We believe that man is made in the image of the triune God, and is therefore social; that in Christ he is restored to his full capacity for social being."   Nikolai Fyodorov, quoted in Rowan Williams, An Introduction

"Come follow me", said Jesus.  Matthew 4:17

Do we wonder if our capacity for social being is somewhat limited and a dreamer's fancy? Fyodorov, as a reminder, puts Christ in front of us as inspiration and also promise.

Not being heard

In his poem Second life David Whyte describes two ways of living, one fearful and withdrawn from others, one more courageous and relational.   Can Jesus' example inspire us to live beyond this 'uncourageous life'?

My uncourageous life
doesn’t want to go,
doesn’t want to speak,
doesn’t want to carry on,
wants to make its way
through stealth,
wants to assume
the strange and dubious honor
of not being heard.
