Two Halves of Life: Wed 28 August 2019: Image and Song

  • 157 Dalkeith Road Edinburgh, Scotland, EH16 5HQ United Kingdom (map)

"The Celtic world...'had a marked preference for verse rather than prose as the literary medium most fit for the purpose of praising God and speaking about the mysteries of Christ.'" Michael Maher, Irish Spirituality

Hello, we next meet together on Wednesday 28th August at 157 Dalkeith Road for a meal from 7pm and prayerful reflection and discussion from c. 8.15pm.

The topic for the evening is Image and Song with reference to Esther de Waal's book The Celtic Way of Prayer.

"In the Celtic countries poetry was a vehicle for the transmission of what was important in that society." Esther de Waal

"Here is praying which is not only inseparable form daily life and work but inseparable from song." Esther de Waal

Can you also consider bringing a poem to read out or song to sing or listen to.

Of the poem or song, it could be:

  • one which reflected a pertinent expression of faith at some stage of your life or

  • one which currently acts as transmission for something important for you, or

  • a prayer or blessing you are projecting into the world.
